Everyone Belongs at Camp
What we believe
Change Summer’s north star is fairness. We exist to close the opportunity gap and leverage high-quality summer camp programs to bring year-round social-emotional education to young people from under-resourced communities. Our founding and our purpose are rooted in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB), and we continue to weave these beliefs into every facet of our organization.
At Change Summer, a diverse, equitable, and inclusive organizational family is one where all stakeholders, whatever their gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, age, sexual orientation or identity, education or mental or physical disability, feel safe, valued, and respected. We are committed to an anti-racist, anti-heterosexist, anti-transphobic, anti-ablest approach and provide equal opportunity for all members of our community. We respect and value diverse life experiences and heritages and strive to ensure that all voices are appreciated and heard.
How we build belonging
Camp programs
We provide a welcoming environment for all campers. Through supportive and culturally-responsive programming, we encourage campers to celebrate their identities while creating memories.
Team culture
Our camps are led by diverse, competent, and conscious teams dedicated to promoting an inclusive summer experience for all campers. We equip our counselors with the tools they need to create an environment of safety and belonging.
Policies & Practices
We are dedicated to ongoing introspection, sustainable improvements, and continuous progress toward becoming an anti-racist organization, through regular examination of internal processes.
S’more Summer
As S’more Summer, Change Summer provides consulting, coaching, and trainings to industry leaders and teams of youth-serving organizations as they integrate DEIB into every facet of their program while leveraging the power and joy of summer all year long.
