Ebony began her camp journey in 2016 with Change Summer’s Camp Uncommon as an arts and crafts counselor during its founding year. Over the past ten summers, she has taken on a wide range of roles including Discovery Counselor, Leadership Team Fellow, Head of Girls, Assistant Director, and Interim Director. A proud Newark, NJ native and Penn State University graduate, Ebony began her teaching career in 2014 as a founding 4th grade teacher at North Star Academy West Side Park Elementary, an Uncommon School. After four years in the classroom, she went on to serve as the Special Education Coordinator for another four years before becoming the founding Autism Program Manager for Uncommon Schools. She holds a Master’s in Special Education with a focus on Autism from William Paterson University and brings a deep commitment to inclusion and supporting all children.
Known for her steady leadership and infectious energy, Ebony is a beloved and versatile presence in the camp community, always ready to break into her signature performance of Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody.” Beyond camp, her dedication to building strong, lasting relationships that shine through in the daily texts she still receives from her former students, now thriving in colleges across the country.
